Advent Four at TLC Pullman

Hello All! With Advent Four we move into the New Testment.  This year in the Narrative Lectionary we will focus on John, and here is how the author begins, "In the beginning was the Logos ... and the Logos became flesh and pitched a tent with us..." Where does this imagry come from?  It turns out an often overlooked branch of Judaism called WISDOM literature.  In Proverbs 8, and other books, Lady Wisdom (Hochma/Sophia) is the firstborn of creation and participates with God in putting it all together. When early Christians were trying to understand Jesus this connected for some.

Online November 14th

Here is your Trinity Online Worship for November 14th!   The Prophet Amos is called by God from being a shepherd to speaking truth to a Society which has gone off the rails. Often prphets speak to those in power....today Amos speaks to a whole society which takes their status and life style for granted...not thinking of those who are trodden upon to create that life...God calls for justice and righteousness...better translated as deep fairness and the willingness to act in harmony with God.

David is Anointed...

Here is your TrinityPullman Online Worship for October 24th!

I Samuel 16:1-13. David is Annointed to be King...

From the Avengers in the Marvel Universe to the Political Scene we have a weakness to looking for a Hero to solve all our problems...no different 3000 years ago when Samuel is called to choose a new King to replace Saul (even though Saul is still alive and well). "Go to Jesse's tent in Bethlehem...he's has a son I will choose. So the parade begins .Eldest, strongest...nope.  Youngest...nearly expendable...out in the fields taking care of the sheep...David.  David has the heart of God, but is still all too human. Fredrick Buechner (Presbyterian writer) commented that he was probably too good looking for his own good. And, like many, he begins to think he can do no wrong. But when he messes us, God calls him to account, and each time David ultimately takes responsibilty. His weakness is part of his humanity BUT he is not excused...

Trinity Online for Sept 5th!

Hello All!  Here is your Trinity Online Worship for September 5th, 2021. We wrap up our Narrative Lectionary Series on the Sacraments with Confession and Forgiveness. Luther was fond of saying that ALL of life was sacramental, a place where God intersects with our lives. But there were certain God gifted things which focused that reality; Baptism, Holy Communion and today we look at Confession and Foriveness. We are human beings, and as such we should know we are going to mess up. This gift from God allows relationships to mend and for community to flow.

August 22 ONLINE Worship

Hello and WELCOME to Trinity Pullman’s Online Worship for August 22!

Our Narrative Lectionary Series on the Sacraments continues. Today we journey to 60 AD and the Christian Group in Corinth.  Christian Community looked a bit different then. There was a strong sense of sharing everything  and that ALL would be treated equally. This was lived out in what was called the Agape Meal; basically a Potluck where everyone brought what they would have had for dinner and all share. Then at the end Communion would be celebrated.  But…TROUBLE IN CORINTH.

What does it mean to be a Christian? There are some heavy duty clues here:

Back to Parking Lot/Lawn Worship this Sunday

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.’ Matthew 22.

These past weeks we have seen the pandemic take a turn backwards due to the Delta Variant. The Whitman County Health Department has confirmed that the Delta variant is here.

The Reopening Committee met Thursday and looked at benchmarks for in-person gatherings that were provided in a document from the synod. This led us to assess the current case rates in Whitman County and hospital capacity. The hospitals in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho are nearing capacity and are transferring patients to other facilities to prevent overloading.  Spokane and Coeur d’Alene hospitals have cancelled all elective surgeries. Governor Inslee issued several new mandates yesterday.

Based on the data and our commitment to your health and safety, we made the difficult decision to return to parking lot worship this Sunday. We know this is short notice but we are nimble. We have developed the skill to pivot on short notice.

Worship is at the same time. You can bring chairs and sit outside or sit in your car. Kerry Swanson is ready to transmit via the FM radio. After worship there will be Ferdinand’s Ice Cream Grabbers for all as we welcome back WSU students.

Your Re-Opening Team is working hard to stay on top of this and will be re-evaluating on an ongoing basis.

God's blessings!

And Sunday Worship! Our Narrative Lectionary continues to work through the Wonderfully Rich letter to the Ephesians for July 25 through August 1) and then a Series on the Sacraments (August 8 through 29th).  These text may have been created 2000 years ago, but in many ways, people are the same;  we get distracted, follow ‘lesser’ gods, and forget whose we are.
